4News -> Cmmon problem
The size of the wall thickness depends on the external force that the product needs to bear, whether it is used as a support for other parts, the number of pillars, the number of protruding parts, and the plastic material selected. The wall thickness design of general thermoplastics should be limited to 4mm. From an economic point of view, an overly thick product design not only increases the material cost, but also prolongs the production cycle (cooling time) and increases the production cost. From the product design point of view, an overly thick product increases the possibility of causing voids (air holes), which greatly weakens the rigidity and strength of the product.
The most ideal wall thickness distribution is undoubtedly a uniform thickness of the cut surface in any place, but it is inevitable to change the wall thickness to meet the functional requirements. In this case, the transition from the thick compound to the thin compound should be as smooth as possible. Too abrupt transitions in wall thickness can cause dimensional instability and surface problems due to different cooling rates and turbulent flow.
